Volumetric Absorptive Microsampling in Biomarker Analysis: Insights from Targeted and Untargeted Metabolomics Approaches

Marlene Thaitumu, Elizabeth Want, Georgios Theodoridis, Helen Gika
2026

This presentation examines volumetric absorptive microsampling in biomarker analysis, with a focus on insights from targeted and untargeted metabolomics approaches. 1) VAMS (Mitra) has the capability to provide accurate and precise quantification of certain amino acids and biogenic amines in dried capillary blood compared to blood and plasma.

Rapid Metabolomics in Blood Microsamples: Optimization and Biomarker Discovery Feasibility

Marlene N. Thaitumu
2026

This presentation outlines optimization of rapid microbore metabolic profiling for blood microsamples. It evaluates whether the approach can identify biomarkers that distinguish microsamples from conventional venous blood and plasma matrices.

Nanoparticle Enrichment of Volumetrically Accurate Microsampled Blood for Enhanced Proteomic Analysis of Dried Blood

Amanda Cambpell, Lindsey Becker, Matthew Ayres, Simion Kreimer, Janice Emmanuella, Koen Raedschelders, Jennifer Van Eyk
2026

This presentation examines nanoparticle enrichment of volumetrically accurate microsampled blood for enhanced proteomic analysis of dried blood.

Antibody Response to SARS-CoV-2 Vaccine in Transplant Recipients and Hemodialysis Patients from the Dominican Republic

Alcantara Sanchez, Lisette Vanessa
2026

This thesis examines antibody response to SARS-CoV-2 vaccine in transplant recipients and hemodialysis patients from the Dominican Republic. The CO group showed a rapid, early peak in anti-S and anti-RBD IgG levels, followed by stabilization.

Advancing therapeutic drug monitoring of CYP3A4-metabolized drugs: analytical innovations and clinical applications

Zibold, Kajetan
2026

This thesis examines advancing therapeutic drug monitoring of CYP3A4-metabolized drugs, with a focus on analytical innovations and clinical applications. Altogether, the study demonstrates that the combined use of TRR, C/D ratio, DRC, and MR may support routine practice by facilitating the detection of non-adherence, drug interactions, and patient subgroups whose pharmacokinetics deviate from the expected cohort, thereby enabling the potential for individualized dose adjustments.

Volumetric absorptive microsampling for profiling of signaling lipids: a comparative analysis with whole blood and dried blood spots

Thangavelu, M. U.; Kindt, A.; Wouters, B.; Lamont, L.; Elfrink, H. L.; Harms, A.; Hankemeier, T.
Anal Bioanal Chem | 2026

This study examines volumetric absorptive microsampling for profiling of signaling lipids, with a focus on a comparative analysis with whole blood and dried blood spots. These findings provide initial evidence supporting VAMS as a feasible and promising alternative to DBS for signaling lipid profiling.

Volumetric Absorptive Microsampling During Spaceflight for Analysis of Acetaminophen Pharmacokinetics in Whole Blood

Mampre, D.; Guttendorf, R.; Zimmer, J.; Whitson, B.; Huggins, J.; Christianson, C.; Burns, E.; Heft, N.; Rosenberg, M.; Asadi, A.; Mateus, J.; Rudge, J.; Mizuno, T.; Donehoo, J.
J Clin Pharmacol | 2026

This study examines volumetric absorptive microsampling during spaceflight for analysis of acetaminophen pharmacokinetics in whole blood. C(max), AUC, V(z)/F, and CL/F showed residual changes 3 days post-flight (R + 3).

Volumetric absorptive microsampling device for forensic Toxicologic screening: A case report as proof-of-concept

Magny, R.; Adell, J.; Labat, L.; Ludes, B.; Dufayet, L.; Houze, P.
Forensic Sci Int | 2026

This study examines volumetric absorptive microsampling device for forensic toxicologic screening, with a focus on a case report as proof-of-concept. These results indicate that Mitra-based microsampling can support qualitative toxicological screening and non-targeted analysis in post-mortem investigations when sample volumes are limited.

Volumetric Absorptive Microsampling (VAMS) for Therapeutic Drug Monitoring of Antiseizure Medications (ASMs) in Pediatric Patients

Simeoli, Raffaele; Mancini, Alessandro; Cairoli, Sara; Rossi, Chiara; Calabrese, Costanza; Trivisano, Marina; Salimbene, Licia; Dionisi Vici, Carlo; Pietrafusa, Nicola; Specchio, Nicola; Goffredo, Bianca Maria
Pharmaceuticals | 2026

This study examines volumetric absorptive microsampling (VAMS) for therapeutic drug monitoring of antiseizure medications (ASMs) in pediatric patients. Comparison of estimated vs. observed plasma results showed a successful predictive performance for this conversion approach.

Validation of a Microsampling-Compatible Liquid-Liquid Extraction Method for Cannabinoid Quantitation in 50 microL of Whole Blood using LC-MS/MS

Mohammed, A. A.; Khan, M.; Chan, H.; Brubacher, J. R.
J Anal Toxicol | 2026

This study validated a liquid-liquid extraction and LC-MS/MS method for cannabinoid quantitation using 50 µL of liquid whole blood. The microsampling-compatible method achieved sub-ng/mL sensitivity and may support roadside capillary collection when conventional venipuncture is impractical.
