Development and validation of a quantitative LC-MS/MS assay for Δ9-THC, its major metabolites, and cannabinoid isomers using volumetric absorptive microsampling (VAMS) devices

Navid, Elnaz
University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus | 2026

This thesis develops a cannabinoid LC-MS/MS assay using VAMS and compares two extraction approaches. Stability and precision limitations prevented full M10-compliant validation. The findings support further method development, including evaluation of inline extraction.

Non-psychotropic phytocannabinoids, Δ9-THC and their metabolites by means of volumetric dried blood microsampling

Noreen, Sobia; Mandrioli, Roberto; Di Lecce, Roberta; Iattoni, Chiara Pia; Castrovilli, Mattea Carmen; Protti, Michele; Mercolini, Laura
Journal of Cannabis Research | 2026

This study validates an HPLC-MS/MS method for nine cannabinoids and metabolites in hemaPEN-collected dried blood. Separate extraction protocols accommodate different sensitivity requirements, and the method was applied to authentic blood specimens.

A review of microsampling techniques for the analysis of chemical threat agents in biological matrices

Rudd, Trinity K.; diTargiani, Robert C.
Bioanalysis | 2026

This review examines microsampling for chemical threat agents, toxins and potent synthetic opioids in biological matrices. It covers VAMS and dried blood spot approaches, analytical methods and logistical advantages, while identifying stability and standardization challenges.

Recent developments in microsampling for oligonucleotides and biologics bioanalysis

Guimaraes, Guilherme; Yuan, Long
Bioanalysis | 2026

This review examines microsampling for oligonucleotide and biologic bioanalysis, including VAMS, dried blood spots and capillary approaches. It discusses collection burden, matrix bias, recovery, stability and sensitivity, along with extraction and analytical methods needed for reliable implementation.

Immunosuppressant therapeutic drug monitoring in whole blood on volumetric absorptive microsamples: a development on i601 mass spec by Roche

Hopital Saint Louis AP-HP
2026

This poster adapts a Roche Cobas i601 immunosuppressant assay to 10 µL Mitra VAMS samples. Tacrolimus met the stated performance criteria, while other analytes required further optimization. Paired patient and venous whole-blood samples are proposed as the next evaluation step.

Self-sampling by patients and clinical staff using 3 microsampling devices: data from 4 clinical studies

Radovanovic, Mirjana; Johnstone, Janice; Reimann, Frank; Galettis, Peter; Flynn, Alex; Schneider, Jennifer J.; Martin, Jennifer H.
2026

Across four clinical studies, this poster compares sample adequacy with Mitra, Telimmune and hemaPEN devices. Staff-collected samples had generally higher adequacy than patient-collected hemaPEN samples; staff experience, required volume and collection frequency also affected success.

Quantitation of Free Metanephrines using VAMS-collected (Mitra®) blood samples

Lenartowicz, Anna; Krupczyńska-Stopa, Katarzyna; Izdebska, Karina; Stopa, Maciej
2026

This poster adapts a plasma metanephrine assay to 30 µL Mitra-collected blood. Results support measurement of metanephrine and normetanephrine, while 3-methoxytyramine remains affected by whole-blood response, calibration and sensitivity limitations that require further optimization.

Bridging the gap: D-penicillamine measurement in VAMS with parallel whole blood and plasma quantification

Arkadiusz Kocur, Agnieszka Czajkowska
2026

This poster develops an LC-MS/MS method for total reducible D-penicillamine in Mitra VAMS, whole blood and plasma. It investigates sample stabilization and relationships between matrices to support low-volume monitoring in patients with Wilson’s disease.

Automated thiopurine S-methyltransferase (TPMT) activity profiling using volumetric absorptive microsampling: enhancing efficiency and precision

Kevin Vandenbroucke, Christophe Stove
2026

This poster develops automated TPMT activity profiling from dried Mitra VAMS samples. Analytical validation and proof-of-concept comparisons with liquid whole blood support simplified phenotyping, with activity retained during refrigerated storage.

Microsampling-based quantification of thiopurine metabolites in pediatric solid organ transplant recipients: LC-MS/MS method using VAMS, qDBS and conventional blood sampling

Arkadiusz Kocur, Jacek Rubik, Agnieszka Czajkowska
2026

This poster evaluates LC-MS/MS measurement of thiopurine metabolites using VAMS, quantitative dried blood spots and conventional erythrocyte samples in pediatric transplant recipients. The microsampling methods showed promising analytical performance and agreement, while larger studies are needed to establish clinical interchangeability.
