Validation of methods for determining pediatric midazolam using wet whole blood and volumetric absorptive microsampling

Abu-Rabie, P.; Neupane, B.; Spooner, N.; Rudge, J.; Denniff, P.; Mulla, H.; Pandya, H.
Bioanalysis | 2019

This study validated methods for measuring pediatric midazolam using wet whole blood and VAMS. Results supported VAMS as a suitable technique for pediatric pharmacokinetic studies.

Thermofisher Scientific
2018

This study analyzes everolimus in mitra VAMS blood samples for clinical research by turbulent flow LC-MS/MS and FAIMS-MS/MS.

Wet absorptive microsampling at home for HbA1c monitoring in diabetic children

Verougstraete, N.; Stove, V.; Stove, C.
Clin Chem Lab Med | 2018

This study examines wet absorptive microsampling at home for HbA1c monitoring in diabetic children.

'Mind your Moles' study: protocol of a prospective cohort study of melanocytic naevi

Koh, U.; Janda, M.; Aitken, J. F.; Duffy, D. L.; Menzies, S.; Sturm, R. A.; Schaider, H.; Betz-Stablein, B.; Prow, T.; Soyer, H. P.; Green, A. C.
BMJ Open | 2018

This protocol describes a three-year prospective cohort study examining the epidemiology and biology of melanocytic nevi. Participants undergo repeated imaging and clinical assessment, with microbiopsy and excision planned for selected lesions to support histopathologic and molecular analyses.

Quantitative analysis of acetylsalicylic acid in human blood using volumetric absorptive microsampling

Kim, Y.; Jeon, J. Y.; Han, S. H.; Ha, N.; Jang, K.; Kim, M. G.
Transl Clin Pharmacol | 2018

Researchers developed an LC-MS/MS method for measuring acetylsalicylic acid in blood and compared conventional sampling with VAMS. The study found that VAMS samples required a stabilizing reagent to prevent concentration loss and support accurate analysis.

Extractability-mediated stability bias and hematocrit impact: High extraction recovery is critical to feasibility of volumetric adsorptive microsampling (VAMS) in regulated bioanalysis

Xie, I.; Xu, Y.; Anderson, M.; Wang, M.; Xue, L.; Breidinger, S.; Goykhman, D.; Woolf, E. J.; Bateman, K. P.
J Pharm Biomed Anal | 2018

Researchers investigated hematocrit-related bias and apparent instability in VAMS assays and traced both problems to low and inconsistent extraction recovery. Optimizing recovery above 80% improved stability and hematocrit independence, leading to a recommended feasibility check for regulated bioanalysis.

Determination of oxycodone and its major metabolites in haematic and urinary matrices: Comparison of traditional and miniaturised sampling approaches

Protti, M.; Catapano, M. C.; Samolsky Dekel, B. G.; Rudge, J.; Gerra, G.; Somaini, L.; Mandrioli, R.; Mercolini, L.
J Pharm Biomed Anal | 2018

This study compared conventional and miniaturized blood and urine sampling methods for LC-MS/MS measurement of oxycodone and its major metabolites. The validated dried-matrix approaches, including VAMS urine sampling, simplified collection and processing with acceptable precision and recovery, though lower sample volumes reduced sensitivity.

Evaluation of a novel micro-sampling device, Mitra, in comparison to dried blood spots, for analysis of praziquantel in Schistosoma haematobium-infected children in rural Cote d'Ivoire

Kovac, J.; Panic, G.; Neodo, A.; Meister, I.; Coulibaly, J. T.; Schulz, J. D.; Keiser, J.
J Pharm Biomed Anal | 2018

Researchers compared Mitra VAMS with dried blood spots for praziquantel pharmacokinetic sampling in children with schistosomiasis in rural Côte d’Ivoire. Mitra was practical and strongly correlated with DBS controls, but patient samples often produced higher concentrations and resulting pharmacokinetic estimates that require further investigation.

Volumetric absorptive microsampling: Current advances and applications

Kok, M. G. M.; Fillet, M.
J Pharm Biomed Anal | 2018

This review summarizes VAMS collection, storage, extraction, recovery, and analytical considerations for small-volume biological samples. It also surveys early pharmacokinetic and therapeutic drug-monitoring applications and highlights the roles of hematocrit, compound stability, and extraction optimization.

Volumetric absorptive MicroSampling vs. other blood sampling materials in LC-MS-based protein analysis - preliminary investigations

Andersen, I. K. L.; Rosting, C.; Gjelstad, A.; Halvorsen, T. G.
J Pharm Biomed Anal | 2018

This preliminary study compared VAMS with cellulose-based microsampling materials for LC-MS protein analysis using six model proteins. Recovery varied by protein and hematocrit affected both VAMS and conventional material, while the initial VAMS results showed acceptable correlation, accuracy, and precision.
