Considerations for the Use of Volumetric Absorptive Microsampling (VAMS) Devices for a Bioanalytical Assay

Covance
2019

This presentation evaluates bioanalytical considerations for Mitra VAMS devices, including internal-standard loading and sampling volume. Pre-loading improved accuracy and precision and may help control variability between tip lots.

Collection and storage of volumetrically accurate and precise dried blood spots in a contained device: hemaPEN

Trajan
2019

This presentation examines collection and storage of volumetrically accurate and precise dried blood spots in a contained device, with a focus on hemaPEN. Blood volume collection and storage on pre-punched 3.5 mm DBS papers using the hemaPEN technology, is accurate to 2.74 μL ± 5% and demonstrates inter-device precision 0.7%.

Challenges of Blood Spot Heavy Metal Testing – Using Blood Spot Area to Correct for Abnormal Sample Spread when Sample Matrix is Unknown

ZRT laboratories
2019

This presentation examines challenges of blood spot heavy metal testing – using blood spot area to correct for abnormal sample spread when sample matrix is unknown. The purpose of this study is to show that by pipetting a set volume of whole blood, a simple area correction can be applied to account for matrix-related sample dilution or concentration for cadmium, lead, and mercury.

Tacrolimus Can Be Reliably Measured With Volumetric Absorptive Capillary Microsampling Throughout the Dose Interval in Renal Transplant Recipients

Vethe, N. T.; Gustavsen, M. T.; Midtvedt, K.; Lauritsen, M. E.; Andersen, A. M.; Asberg, A.; Bergan, S.
Ther Drug Monit | 2019

This study evaluates the reliability of tacrolimus measurement with volumetric absorptive capillary microsampling throughout the dose interval in renal transplant recipients. The microsample method demonstrated acceptable performance.

DIY Blood Sampling for Pediatric Clinical Trials—The Patients Perspective

Enaksha Wickremsinhe, Leanne West, Mary Short, Brandon Talkington
Applied Clinical trials | 2019

This article examines patient and caregiver perspectives on do-it-yourself blood microsampling for pediatric clinical trials. At-home collection may reduce travel and sampling burden, while training, reminders, and follow-up communication remain important for successful implementation.

Biofluid Collection in Metabolomics by the Application of the novel Volumetric Absorptive Microsampling Technology: a mini-Review

Meesters, Roland
Reviews in Separation Sciences | 2019

This study examines biofluid collection in metabolomics by the application of the novel volumetric absorptive microsampling technology: a mini-review.

Application of Mitra((R)) microsampling for pharmacokinetic bioanalysis of monoclonal antibodies in rats

Li, H.; Bigwarfe, T.; Myzithras, M.; Waltz, E.; Ahlberg, J.
Bioanalysis | 2019

This study applies Mitra((R)) microsampling for pharmacokinetic bioanalysis of monoclonal antibodies in rats. The low relative standard deviation among the three sets of PK data suggest that Mitra((R)) microsampler could be useful in early nonclinical PK studies for protein therapeutics where reduction and refinement of animal use is desirable.

Mitra device for dried blood microsampling

NC3R
2019

This application note introduces the Mitra VAMS device for collecting an accurate 10 µL dried-blood sample independent of hematocrit and outlines its use in animal blood sampling workflows.

Incorporating Novel Synthetic DBS Substrates into a Blood Microsampling Device for Multi-Omics Analyses

Kyle Bachus, Ricardo Neto, Lada Staskova, Konstantinos Kouremenos, Jeff Craig, Robert Shellie, Dario Arrua, Emily F Hilder, Andrew Gooley, Wei Boon Hon
2019

This poster presents four studies using paper and synthetic polymer dried-blood substrates for metabolomics, amino-acid and acyl-carnitine analysis, fatty-acid methyl ester analysis, and DNA extraction.

Absorbent Microbiopsy Sampling and RNA Extraction for Minimally Invasive, Simultaneous Blood and Skin Analysis

Lei, Benson U. W.; Yamada, Miko; Hoang, Van L. T.; Belt, Paul J.; Moore, Mark H.; Lin, Lynlee L.; Flewell-Smith, Ross; Dang, Nhung; Tomihara, Shoko; Prow, Tarl W.
JoVE | 2019

This protocol describes an absorbent microneedle-based microbiopsy for simultaneous collection of skin and blood material. It details device use, RNA extraction, and RT-qPCR measurement of skin- and blood-associated gene expression.
