A simple and direct atomic absorption spectrometry method for the direct determination of Hg in dried blood spots and dried urine spots prepared using various microsampling devices

Nakadi, Flávio V.; Garde, Raúl; da Veiga, Márcia A. M. S.; Cruces, Julio; Resano, Martín
Journal of Analytical Atomic Spectrometry | 2020

This study examines a simple and direct atomic absorption spectrometry method for the direct determination of hg in dried blood spots and dried urine spots prepared using various microsampling devices. It is also demonstrated that the simultaneous analysis of four Mitra derived DBSs in a quartz boat results in a decrease of the LOD to 0.32 μg L−1.

Clinical application of volumetric absorptive microsampling to the gefapixant development program

Roadcap, B.; Hussain, A.; Dreyer, D.; Carter, K.; Dube, N.; Xu, Y.; Anderson, M.; Berthier, E.; Vazvaei, F.; Bateman, K.; Woolf, E.
Bioanalysis | 2020

This study used volumetric absorptive microsampling with the Tasso OnDemand collection device during the gefapixant development program. A validated LC-MS/MS method and mathematical bridge to plasma measurements supported use of the microsampling approach in a drug–drug interaction study.

Analysis of Mitra microsampling device with Olink

Olink
2020

This application note describes Olink's evaluation and optimization of a sample-preparation protocol for the Mitra microsampling device.

Minimally Invasive Microbiopsies as an Improved Sampling Method for the Diagnosis of Cutaneous Leishmaniasis

Churiso, G.; van Henten, S.; Cnops, L.; Pollmann, J.; Melkamu, R.; Lemma, M.; Kiflie, A.; Fikre, H.; van Griensven, J.; Adriaensen, W.
Open Forum Infect Dis | 2020

This study evaluated minimally invasive microbiopsy sampling for PCR-based diagnosis of cutaneous leishmaniasis in Ethiopia. Microbiopsy detected more patients than routine skin-slit sampling and produced significantly lower pain scores.

A minimally invasive clinical model to test sunscreen toxicity based on oxidative stress levels using microbiopsy and confocal microscopy - A Proof of concept study

Yamada, M.; Lin, L. L.; Hang, L. Y. T.; Belt, P. J.; Soyer, H. P.; Raphael, A. P.; Prow, T. W.
Int J Cosmet Sci | 2020

This proof-of-concept volunteer study used microbiopsy and confocal microscopy to assess oxidative stress after application of zinc-oxide nanoparticle sunscreen. The tested sunscreen produced no detectable increase in oxidative stress, supporting further evaluation of this minimally invasive model for topical-product research.

Microbiopsy-based minimally invasive skin sampling for molecular analysis is acceptable to Epidermolysis Bullosa Simplex patients where conventional diagnostic biopsy was refused

Yamada, M.; Melville, E.; Cowin, A. J.; Prow, T. W.; Kopecki, Z.
Skin Res Technol | 2020

This proof-of-concept case report evaluated microbiopsy sampling in people with epidermolysis bullosa simplex who declined conventional diagnostic biopsy. The study focused on patient acceptance, procedural safety, and whether the small samples could support gene-expression analysis.

Dried Blood Microsampling-Based Therapeutic Drug Monitoring of Antiepileptic Drugs in Children With Nodding Syndrome and Epilepsy in Uganda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo

Velghe, S.; Delahaye, L.; Ogwang, R.; Hotterbeekx, A.; Colebunders, R.; Mandro, M.; Idro, R.; Stove, C. P.
Ther Drug Monit | 2020

Researchers used dried blood spots and VAMS to monitor antiepileptic drugs among children in remote regions of Uganda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Many measured concentrations were subtherapeutic, while VAMS overestimated concentrations relative to dried blood spots, illustrating both the feasibility and limitations of microsampling in resource-constrained settings.

Tacrolimus Area Under the Concentration Versus Time Curve Monitoring, Using Home-Based Volumetric Absorptive Capillary Microsampling

Gustavsen, M. T.; Midtvedt, K.; Vethe, N. T.; Robertsen, I.; Bergan, S.; Asberg, A.
Ther Drug Monit | 2020

Researchers evaluated home-collected Mitra capillary samples for tacrolimus area-under-the-curve monitoring in kidney transplant recipients. Samples collected before dosing and at one and three hours, combined with Bayesian estimation, accurately predicted venous exposure and supported patient-centered monitoring without extended hospital stays.

Development, validation and application of an inductively coupled plasma - mass spectrometry method to determine cobalt in metal-on-metal prosthesis patients using volumetric absorptive microsampling

Capiau, S.; Bolea-Fernandez, E.; Balcaen, L.; Van Der Straeten, C.; Verstraete, A. G.; Vanhaecke, F.; Stove, C. P.
Talanta | 2020

This study developed and validated a VAMS–ICP-MS method for monitoring cobalt in patients with metal-on-metal prostheses. Results from 78 patients correlated strongly with liquid whole blood, supporting convenient home collection and mail transport.

Dried Urine Microsampling Coupled to Liquid Chromatography-Tandem Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) for the Analysis of Unconjugated Anabolic Androgenic Steroids

Protti, M.; Marasca, C.; Cirrincione, M.; Sberna, A. E.; Mandrioli, R.; Mercolini, L.
Molecules | 2020

This study compared dried urine spots and VAMS for LC-MS/MS measurement of unconjugated anabolic-androgenic steroids. Both microsampling methods produced sensitive, precise, and reliable results consistent with liquid urine while simplifying storage and transport for anti-doping work.
