First Experience of Optimization of Tacrolimus Therapeutic Drug Monitoring in a Patient Cotreated With Nirmatrelvir/Ritonavir: How Microsampling Approach Changes Everything

Golbin, L.; Tron, C.; Franck, B.; Vigneau, C.; Verdier, M. C.; Lemaitre, F.
Transplantation | 2023

This study examines first experience of optimization of tacrolimus therapeutic drug monitoring in a patient cotreated with Nirmatrelvir/Ritonavir: how microsampling approach changes everything. Here, we provide the first report of a kidney transplant recipient whose tacrolimus treatment has been adjusted during and after the antiviral treatment by nirmatrelvir/ritonavir thanks to an innovative microsampling method of TDM performed at home by the patient herself.

Clinical performance of volumetric finger-prick sampling for the monitoring of tacrolimus, creatinine and haemoglobin in kidney transplant recipients

Vethe, N. T.; Asberg, A.; Andersen, A. M.; Heier Skauby, R.; Bergan, S.; Midtvedt, K.
Br J Clin Pharmacol | 2023

This study examines clinical performance of volumetric finger-prick sampling for the monitoring of tacrolimus, creatinine and haemoglobin in kidney transplant recipients. Comparing sampling situations, the success rate was consistent for Capitainer (92%-96%), whereas Mitra showed 72%-88% and 52%-72% success rates with samples collected by healthcare personnel and the patients themselves.

Volumetric absorptive microsampling coupled with hybridization LC-MS/MS for quantitation of antisense oligonucleotides

Chen, M. L.; Mekhssian, K.; Dutt, M.; Plomley, J.; Keyhani, A.
Bioanalysis | 2023

This study combined Mitra microsampling with hybridization LC-MS/MS to quantify the antisense oligonucleotide fomivirsen in human blood. The workflow achieved reliable recovery across hematocrit levels and sample ages and demonstrated four months of microsample stability.

A feasibility study of controlled human infection with intradermal Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) injection: Pilot BCG controlled human infection model

Carter, E.; Morton, B.; ElSafadi, D.; Jambo, K.; Kenny-Nyazika, T.; Hyder-Wright, A.; Chiwala, G.; Chikaonda, T.; Chirwa, A. E.; Gonzalez Sanchez, J.; Yip, V.; Biagini, G.; Pennington, S. H.; Saunderson, P.; Farrar, M.; Myerscough, C.; Collins, A. M.; Gordon, S. B.; Ferreira, D. M.
Wellcome Open Res | 2023

This protocol describes a controlled human infection model using intradermal BCG to support tuberculosis vaccine and therapy research. Microbiopsy and other minimally invasive skin-sampling methods will be compared with punch biopsy before selected methods are used for longitudinal assessment.

Gene expression based molecular test as diagnostic aid for the differential diagnosis of psoriasis and eczema in formalin fixed and paraffin embedded tissue, microbiopsies and tape strips

Fischer, F.; Doll, A.; Uereyener, D.; Roenneberg, S.; Hillig, C.; Weber, L.; Hackert, V.; Meinel, M.; Farnoud, A.; Seiringer, P.; Thomas, J.; Anand, P.; Graner, L.; Schlenker, F.; Zengerle, R.; Jonsson, P.; Jargosch, M.; Theis, F. J.; Schmidt-Weber, C. B.; Biedermann, T.; Howell, M.; Reich, K.; Eyerich, K.; Menden, M.; Garzorz-Stark, N.; Lauffer, F.; Eyerich, S.
J Invest Dermatol | 2023

Researchers developed a real-time PCR molecular classifier to help distinguish psoriasis from eczema and evaluated it in fixed tissue, microbiopsies, and tape strips. The classifier showed strong performance in fixed tissue, and the minimally invasive samples also differentiated the two conditions.

Molecular Skin Cancer Diagnosis: Promise and Limitations

Nataren, N.; Yamada, M.; Prow, T.
J Mol Diagn | 2023

This review examines established and emerging molecular biomarkers for skin-cancer diagnosis and management. It outlines their potential clinical roles and limitations across risk assessment, diagnosis, monitoring, and treatment.

Volumetric Absorptive Microsampling for the Therapeutic Drug Monitoring of Everolimus in Patients Who Have Undergone Liver Transplant

Yoo, S.; Kim, G.; Kim, S.; Ha, J.; Cho, B. S.; Joo, D. J.; Lee, J. I.
Ther Drug Monit | 2023

Researchers compared VAMS and venous everolimus measurements in liver transplant recipients. The methods showed strong correlation and good agreement without detectable effects from hematocrit or collection time, supporting VAMS as a less-invasive alternative for therapeutic monitoring.

Results From a Proficiency Testing Pilot for Immunosuppressant Microsampling Assays

Veenhof, H.; Koster, R. A.; Junier, L. A. T.; Zweipfenning, P.; Touw, D. J.
Ther Drug Monit | 2023

An international proficiency-testing pilot compared immunosuppressant microsampling assays using Mitra and several other collection devices. Microsampling results showed greater interlaboratory variation than liquid whole blood and sometimes produced different clinical decisions, demonstrating the need for regular proficiency testing and method harmonization.

Fingerprick Microsampling Methods Can Replace Venepuncture for Simultaneous Therapeutic Drug Monitoring of Tacrolimus, Mycophenolic Acid, and Prednisolone Concentrations in Adult Kidney Transplant Patients

Scuderi, C.; Parker, S.; Jacks, M.; John, G. T.; McWhinney, B.; Ungerer, J.; Mallett, A.; Healy, H.; Roberts, J.; Staatz, C.
Ther Drug Monit | 2023

This study compared dried blood spots and VAMS with venous sampling for simultaneous measurement of tacrolimus, mycophenolic acid, and prednisolone in adult kidney transplant patients. After correction for tacrolimus bias, microsampling met predefined accuracy limits, with the authors expressing a preference for VAMS over dried blood spots.

Developing a Method for Quantifying Meropenem in Children-Volumetric Adsorptive Microsampling Versus Plasma Sampling

Ramadan, O.; Schatz, L. M.; van den Heuvel, I.; Masjosthusmann, K.; Groll, A. H.; Hempel, G.
Ther Drug Monit | 2023

Researchers assessed whether whole-blood VAMS could support meropenem therapeutic drug monitoring in critically ill children. VAMS results could not be converted reliably to plasma concentrations, so the team instead validated a low-volume method using 50 µL of plasma.
