Assessment and cross-validation of calibration transferability between dried blood spot sampling devices for accurate quantification of phosphatidylethanol

Hose, J.; Juebner, M.; Thevis, M.; Andresen-Streichert, H.
Anal Bioanal Chem | 2025

This study developed and cross-validated an LC-MS/MS method for PEth using three dried-blood sampling systems. Samples from the devices could be prepared and analyzed with a common procedure, supporting calibration transferability across formats.

Case Studies on the Use of Patient-centric Sampling for Clinical Studies in Pharmaceutical Drug Development

Patel, S.; Baratta, M.; Bryan, P.; Kopel, H.; Lowes, S.; Luo, L.; Spooner, N.; Stieltjes, H.; Wan, K.; Wickremsinhe, E.; Wilson, A.
AAPS J | 2025

This review presents seven pharmaceutical case studies of patient-centric sampling in clinical development. The examples highlight benefits for remote collection, recruitment, diversity, comfort, and efficiency while outlining practical implementation challenges.

A comparison between venous blood sampling and capillary volumetric absorptive microsampling for antibiotics levels monitoring in individuals with and without periodontal disease

Lazaridi, I.; Choong, E.; Mercier, T.; Decosterd, L. A.; Giannopoulou, C.; Zekeridou, A.
Clin Oral Investig | 2025

This study compared VAMS capillary sampling with venous plasma for monitoring common antibiotics used in periodontal treatment. Although concentrations differed by matrix, VAMS reflected concentration trends and was considered acceptable for PK and monitoring applications.

Application of Volumetric Absorptive Microsampling (VAMS) for the simultaneous determination of cadmium and lead in blood

Gutknecht, Claus; Burianova, Alexandra; Bose-O’Reilly, Stephan; Rakete, Stefan
Research Square | 2025

This study evaluated VAMS for simultaneous cadmium and lead biomonitoring in human blood. Results showed strong correlations with venous blood and demonstrated that pre-washing VAMS devices can reduce background contamination, especially for lead.

Assessment of dried blood micro-sampling methods for oxylipin analysis in newborn blood using UPLC-MS/MS

Albiach-Delgado, A.; Cascant-Vilaplana, M. M.; Pinilla-Gonzalez, A.; Torrejon-Rodriguez, L.; Balas, L.; Durand, T.; Quintas, G.; Kuligowski, J.; Cernada, M.
Anal Chim Acta | 2025

This study compared dried blood microsampling methods for oxylipin analysis in newborn blood using UPLC-MS/MS. VAMS and pre-cut DBS showed promise for low-volume clinical analysis, with stability and storage conditions identified as important considerations.

At-Home Self-Collection of Pharmacokinetic Data: Design and Results From a Phase 1 Open-Label Feasibility Trial

Raoufinia, A.; Shoaf, S. E.; Rothman, B.; Ye, C.; Chung, C.
Clin Pharmacol Drug Dev | 2025

This feasibility trial assessed whether participants could accurately self-collect microsamples and related safety data at home during a Phase 1 PK study. Results supported the feasibility of remote blood microsampling, ECG, and vital-sign collection.

Capillary blood microsampling and LC-Orbitrap analysis for adherence monitoring of cardiovascular drugs: method development, cross-validation, and patient proof-of-concept using VAMS and Capitainer-B

Kretschmer, Diana; Tokcan, Mert; Markwirth, Philipp; Wagmann, Lea; Mahfoud, Felix; Böhm, Michael; Meyer, Markus R.
Talanta | 2025

This study developed and cross-validated VAMS and a comparator device-B workflows for monitoring adherence to cardiovascular drugs. The findings support capillary microsampling as a practical approach for decentralized adherence monitoring, while noting analyte-specific stability considerations.

Comparison of microsampling for PFAS blood analysis: Enabling cheap high-resolution biomonitoring

Partington, J. M.; Cameron, M.; McLeod, M.; Gooley, A.; Watt, M. J.; Clarke, B. O.
Anal Chim Acta | 2025

This biomonitoring study compared DBS, Mitra VAMS, and hemaPEN for PFAS measurement during at-home sampling and ambient postage. Mitra showed strong stability and robustness, supporting its use in large-scale PFAS biomonitoring.

Quantitative comparison of whole blood, plasma and serum metabolomes across different blood collection methods

Zubkowski, A.; Lopez-Hernandez, Y.; Rayat, D. Y.; Zheng, J.; Hiebert-Giesbrecht, M. R.; Johnson, M.; Kovur, P.; Mandal, R.; Wishart, D. S.
Metabolomics | 2025

This study compared metabolite profiles across plasma, serum, whole blood, and dried blood collected using Mitra devices. The work highlights how matrix and collection method affect metabolomic interpretation and supports careful matrix selection in microsampling studies.

Rapid, robust LC-MS/MS quantification of cefazolin in whole blood microsamples, plasma, and plasma ultrafiltrate: Analytical method validation and preliminary clinical application in pediatric population

Kocur, Arkadiusz; Czajkowska, Agnieszka; Moczulski, Mateusz; Częczek, Anna; Mikaszewska-Sokolewicz, Małgorzata
Clinica chimica acta; international journal of clinical chemistry | 2025

This validation study developed an LC-MS/MS method for measuring cefazolin in VAMS whole blood, plasma, and plasma ultrafiltrate. The method showed robust analytical performance and potential for pediatric therapeutic drug monitoring and PK/PD studies.
