Thanks to ongoing advances in technology, it is now feasible to get an enormous amount of data from very small amounts of biological fluid. And yet, until recently, there wasn't a good way to collect these small specimens, or microsamples.
Older microsampling methods involved collecting splotches of blood on special cards - a splotch is not a precise unit of measurement. This approach is referred to as dried blood spot, or DBS. The older DBS approach was to collect blood drops from a finger-prick onto a DBS card, which led to challenges such as the hematocrit bias, awkward automation, and more. Venipuncture blood draws were stressful for patients or study volunteers, and the cold chain biohazard shipping required for tubes of liquid blood was often cost-prohibitive. However, there was no alternative that covered everyone's needs.
In the last few years, we've seen an innovation called volumetric absorptive microsampling, driven by the work of Neoteryx and its remarkable Mitra® devices, based on VAMS® technology.
Mitra devices are specially designed with absorptive, sponge-like VAMS® tips to collect precise, volumetrically accurate blood samples.
Thanks to these innovations, professionals in fields ranging from pediatrics to clinical trials to monitoring antiepileptics and tacrolimus can collect samples in the perfect volumes their life-changing, world-changing work requires.
Much of the spectacular achievements and progress associated with Neoteryx, Mitra and its VAMS technology come from close collaboration with trusted partners, including some of the biggest names in the worlds of clinical trials, clinical research, hospital labs, pediatrics, therapeutic drug monitoring, and far beyond.
The work of the Neoteryx microsampling team at Trajan benefits those working in scientific research, healthcare, wellness monitoring, pharmaceutical drug development and toxicology, among others. When these industries benefit - along with providers, patients, participants, and pediatric caregivers - Trajan benefits.
Trajan is now bringing volumetric absorptive microsampling into new realms, such as extraction automation, precision medicine, and other emerging areas of smarter science, healthcare and patient-centric medicine. We're proud to acknowledge what we've accomplished in collaboration with our partners, our all-star Advisory Council, and the microsampling community.
